Bringing Clarity
God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. - Gen 1: 4
The first act of creation out of chaos was light. God saw that the light was good and immediately proceeded to ‘separate’ the light from the darkness. Light facilitates the ability to see, appreciate and work effectively. God continued his act of creation and later we see that God placed a greater light to ‘rule’ the day and a lesser light to ‘rule’ the night - cf. Gen 1: 18, KJV.
Light brought clarity to the earth and her inhabitants. The greater light (sun) and the lesser lights (moon and other heavenly bodies) provided both illumination as well as direction. The best example of the light providing illumination and direction is our Lord and Christ. Everybody including intellectuals, rulers, the poor found light and direction when they looked to Jesus.
Light shining through, dispels darkness, wickedness, wrong intentions, and wrong attitudes. When we live as channels, of God working through our lives, we are actually working as His instruments, through which His light can dispel the darkness in others’ lives.
Cruising at 38,000 feet is quite an experience. During the day, I was able to see cloud formations a few thousand feet below and was also able trace faint outlines of the Arabian Sea and then in a short while the hills and sands of the Arabian Desert far below. During the night only faint lights were visible.
The imagery drawn in Mt 5: 15 that a city set on a hill cannot be hidden is powerful. No one lights a lamp to look at the light; it is to see other things surrounding it. A Christian at his work is like light seen by others in darkness. A person who is good, honest, truthful and transparent in his dealings cannot be hidden and is able to draw others to imitate him.
We are redeemed and separated to make a difference in the darkness.
Dear Lord, I pray that with Jesus Christ the light of the world as my guide, may my work increasingly bring clarity by providing illumination and direction.
